Base Station Phantom (BSTP)If the measured product is large enough, whole body SAR may be needed in order to find the product’s “worst case” in terms of RF exposure. We have recently invested into 1.8 meter long Base Station Phantom (pictured below), which is meant for SAR evaluations in accordance with the Base-Station Antenna Testing standards (e.g. IEC 62232). This phantom (BSTP-A) is for adult exposure assessments.

Hilla Spearhead Research Project Created a Market-Ready Product in One Year

Verkotan developed GPS Air Performance test service to revolutionize GPS performance testing

Verkotan’s unique, GPS Air Performance Test (patent pending) has been developed together with the leading wearable industry players such as Polar Electro Oy,  Pulse Finland Oy and research institutes University of Oulu and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd. Funding was contributed by TEKES and Hilla Program.

Verkotan has developed a real Over-the-Air GPS field test environment into the test laboratory. Now GPS performance testing can be done quickly in controlled and repeatable conditions – something that has not been possible before. With one test run you can find out the total GPS performance (chipset, mechanics and antenna) of the device.

To enable an accurate representation of the absorption, shadowing and scattering effects of a user’s body, hand and forearm, Verkotan is using state of the art anatomical human phantoms. The hand and forearm are movable to enable accurate repositioning of the device that is essential to an efficient and reliable test plan.

Verkotan laboratory selects Anite’s Propsim F32 Channel Emulator for advanced and rapid MIMO OTA testing

 The FAST-OTA capability enables CTIA approved laboratory to speed up MIMO OTA testing of mobile devices by more than ten times.

Fleet, Hampshire, UK –22 June, 2016 – Anite, a global leader in wireless equipment testing technology, has today announced that Verkotan laboratory has recently selected Anite’s Propsim F32 Channel Emulator to enable faster MIMO OTA testing in Verkotan’s advanced wireless performance laboratory.

Based in Finland, the laboratory includes a state-of-the art anechoic chamber large enough to test laptops as well as base stations aimed for deployment in 5G networks. Verkotan works closely with major mobile operators and manufacturers of wireless equipment, including wearables, seeking to outsource its testing needs to a high-end laboratory equipped to handle a wide range of testing requirements such as those mandated by CTIA.

Anite’s Propsim F32 enables Verkotan to verify that mobile devices with the latest technology features, including multiple antenna configurations and carrier aggregation, perform as expected. In August last year, CTIA released a standardised MIMO OTA performance test plan, which many manufacturers and mobile operators aim to conform with to ensure high levels of end-user experience.

Propsim’s FAST-OTA capability enables Verkotan to accelerate MIMO OTA testing of mobile devices by more than ten times compared to conventional testing methods. Anite’s Propsim F32 Channel Emulator is the only single unit channel emulator that supports the minimum requirement of eight dual polarized antennas for MIMO OTA testing in an anechoic chamber. It can be expanded to support 16 dual polarized antennas (required for testing larger devices), making it a future-proof solution for upcoming technologies and device formats.

Verkotan takes part in Eureka Celtic+ program ReICOvAir

Reicovair (Reliable Industrial Communication Over the Air) is Eureka Celtic+ program lasting from 2016 to 2018. Participants are from Finland and Germany. Link to the official program www pages:  http://www.iis.fraunhofer.de

Wireless communication is the enabler for locations and areas that currently are not at all or hardly reachable by wired connections (e.g. rotating parts, autonomously moving machinery, intelligent moving objects like workpiece carriers and automatic guided vehicles (AGV)). In the ReICOvAir project, the necessary standards, methods and testing tools for providing proof of industrial wireless communication will be developed. The work includes the standardization of the test cases and methodology in the appropriate Standards Developing Organizations and development of comprehensive software and hardware testbed solutions with unified control.

Verkotan Oy will participate in developing a method for measuring the performance of communication devices for industrial environment, IoT, mainly to Manufacturing and Engineering sector. Verkotan will concentrate on designing and implementing a measurement system in Verkotan’s laboratory environment. This service can be commercially and globally offered for companies developing and selling IoT products. This innovation is totally new both nationally and internationally.

Verkotan has developed a completely new way to test your devices GPS air performance on the field. Till now developers have suffered from long GPS field testing times and poor results, mainly because of the changing conditions in the environment, such as weather for example.

Project targets to create novel and versatile communication module for poor network coverage.

Target customer markets are in vehicles needingreal time fleet and maintenance data flow connections to backend services.

Real time data communications improves the efficiency of customer value chain. Vehicles collect an incredible amount of data. Due to economic efficiency all the machines and the vehicles must be connected to the network all the time. Especially forest machines, mining machines and tractors work occassionally out of cell coverage. It is equally important to have real time communication connection from main office back endsystem to the fleet in spite of network quality. Furthermore in efficient production data must be stamped with precision position information, also in conditions where statellite positioning is not available. This product enables the position stamping based on location sensors.

Enablers of the Consortium are distinguished professionals, with know how to design also devices divergent from main stream products. Technology knowledge of the professionals covers the telecoms business productisation with technology areas like RF, HW, SW, antennas and certification. Furthermore, the University and technology ecosystem services with its contacts are agile reachable without formalities in the city of Oulu.
