Finnish postal service, Posti Oyj, has expanded its parcel locker services to outdoors parcel lockers. These new parcel lockers are developed to withstand Finnish weather conditions, cold winters, and warm summers. Outdoors parcel lockers will be a solution to areas where there is no possibility for inside lockers or possibility to expand already existing inside parcel lockers.
Verkotan has been developing these new lockers among other Finnish technology companies, Punta Oy, Kaltiot, Solmu Technologies, elfGROUP, iProtoXi ja ID-Systems IDS, Oulun yliopisto and VTT.
Our role in the project
IoT technology will be used in these outside parcel lockers so that the lockers can be controlled through OmaPosti -application. When IoT technology is employed, it is important to ensure its functionality with other devices, such as mobile phones. We have been performing wireless performance tests for the lockers to ensure that the connections work as expected. We have performed LTE-M/NB-IoT measurements and BLE measurements for the lockers.
NB-IoT technology uses existing cellular network infrastructure to deliver reliable connectivity and excellent coverage. This approach is becoming adopted worldwide. OTA testing, wireless performance testing, is critical to qualify the interoperability and compliance of NB-IoT devices.
