  • Apparatus: Finished appliances or combinations intended for end-users that could generate or be affected by electromagnetic disturbance. 
  • Fixed installations: Combinations of devices intended for permanent use at a specific location. 

What It Does Not Cover (Article 2, paragraph 2(d)): 

The directive excludes equipment where: 

  • The physical characteristics prevent it from generating significant electromagnetic emissions, and 
  • It operates without unacceptable performance degradation in typical electromagnetic environments. 

In most cases, if your product emits or is affected by electromagnetic signals, it likely falls under the directive—and EMC testing is required. 

If you’re unsure, it’s best to consult an EMC testing lab to determine how the directive applies to your product.
