What’s Ahead?
Starting in August 2025, new cybersecurity regulations under Radio Equipment Directive (RED) Article 3.3d, 3.3e, and 3.3f will come into effect for radio products sold in the European market.
Key Requirements Under the Radio Equipment Directive
The requirement of the articles is following:
3.3(d) radio equipment does not harm the network or its functioning nor misuse network resources, thereby causing an unacceptable degradation of service;
3.3 (e) radio equipment incorporates safeguards to ensure that the personal data and privacy of the user and of the subscriber are protected;
3.3(f) radio equipment supports certain features ensuring protection from fraud;
Preparing for 2025: Steps to Ensure Compliance
These requirements can be met by following three-part standard EN 18031, “Common security requirements for radio equipment”. The different parts of the standard apply to different type of radio equipment radio equipment as follows:
Part 1) Internet-connected
Part 2) Processes personal data, traffic data or location data including toys and wearable devices
Part 3) Handles financial transactions.
Manufacturers will be required to enhance the cybersecurity of their products to minimize disruptions, ensure user safety, and provide robust protection against evolving cyber threats.
Additionally, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) will take effect in 2027, broadening security requirements to a wider range of equipment.
It’s crucial for companies to begin preparations now to meet these new standards and ensure the security of Europe’s digital ecosystem.
Let’s work together to create a safer, more resilient digital environment for all users! 😊
