SAR testing with a new small box shaped base-station antenna phantom
Specific absorption rate (SAR) is a measure which explains how much radio frequency energy is absorbed by the user’s or bystander’s body or head. Wireless devices, used closer than 20 centimetres from a human or animal head or body, are required to comply with SAR limits primarily for the safety of humans and animals. When users are in the reactive near-field of the antenna, it is essential to determine the safest distance between the device and the user. The key consideration here is in obtaining the most accurate results.
Small box-shaped phantom
The new small box-shaped phantom (0.96 × 0.233 ×0.15) allows easy local SAR testing of long whip antennas, large IoT devices and indoor base station antennas.
The small box-shaped phantom is also the preferred alternative for the whole-body SAR testing, when there is a possibility of exposure to anyone, including children. Typically, box-shaped phantoms are used for the indoor base stations antennas, which can be arbitrarily arranged in the houses, offices and other places.
