Verkotan is founded by the same people who built the world-leading Nokia RF OTA test laboratories in Oulu and we have a strong background in wireless devices. Marko Lepistö has been working at Nokia in the product development of Nokia base stations. Before working at Nokia, Marko studied at Oulu University of Applied Sciences and graduated as an engineer of automation technology. He joined to team Verkotan in 2019 after working at Nokia for twenty-two years.
Working as OTA Test Engineer, Marko’s responsibilities include 5G base station OTA (Over-the-Air) performance measurement testing and type approval testing. Marko is the one who conducts the measurements in our anechoic chambers, required by the customer, and makes sure that the results are reliable. Marko is a very conscientious employee. He sees the big picture and his role in part of customer satisfaction. In his everyday work, Marko assures that the customers get high-quality testing and the measurement results are reliable.
Currently, what is the main problem within the industry and how do you respond to that in your everyday work?
Even if rapid development of technology enables many things, it also makes life more complicated. The development of technology demands us to learn new things continuously, and in my opinion, this is only a good thing. It maintains the interest and you do not ever get bored. Wireless communication, especially data transfer grows increasingly, and this means that the importance and the need for OTA testing will not fade in the future.
What are the values that drive you?
Three things come to mind: respecting other people, customer satisfaction both external and internal, and continuous learning.
What behaviour or personality trait do you attribute your success to and why?
Perseverance added to good nerves. Also, I am not afraid of problems. Instead, when I face a problem, I will find more information about the situation and continue pushing until the situation is resolved and I succeed. Of course, my interest towards new things also helps since the industry is constantly evolving and developing.
What are your impressions from working at Verkotan so far?
I like working at Verkotan, this is like a big family where everyone knows each other and respects each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Things here are managed flexibly, according to the situation. Every case is its own and there are no unnecessary rigidities. Also, help is always available when needed.
What is the most challenging aspect of your work?
We at Verkotan also develop new tests for our customer needs and sometimes there are new situations, problems and that you have not encountered before. When we do not know immediately how to proceed, we brainstorm, ask questions, and many times end up develop new test methods.
How did you find joining the team?
The beginning was a little slow because I did not know the people yet, but this is how it always goes. Now I feel very comfortable working in the team and feel like I am a part of it.
How is the working atmosphere?
I would describe the atmosphere at Verkotan as easy going. Working at Verkotan can be described as cooperation between people who are curious and interested in wireless testing and developing themselves and others in good spirit.
Are you satisfied with your current position? Do you feel the job is challenging enough for example in terms of knowledge and experience?
I am very pleased and satisfied with my current job, new things to learn come in suitable doses and it makes it enjoyable. Resolving a new situation always serves as a reward.
Would you like to add a few overall comments regarding your work, company, or team?
I follow Verkotan’s development with great interest and do my best to influence it positively with my work input.
