Traditionally SIM cards have been physical objects. Every time you have wanted to change a network operator you have had to get a new physical SIM card. This is about to change! In the future SIM cards will be embedded into your device. There will be no need for physical SIM cards anymore. This means that if one wants to change a network operator, the switch can be made, for example, at home from phone settings. In addition, eSIM eases dual-SIM users, since with eSIM it is easy to switch between multiple accounts.

For device manufacturers, eSIM enables smaller device sizes since the device does not necessarily need a physical SIM tray anymore. When the physical SIM tray does not take any space, the device can contain, for example, larger battery or the design can be smaller. There are wide range of devices in which eSIM card can be used, such as mobile phones, smartwatches, laptops, tablets and many IoT devices.
