What is RF Modification?

How the RF Modification testing is done?
The modification is done by bypassing antennas of the phones or other devices with coaxial cables. We test and identify technologies and frequency bands that are functional via each cable. After this the modem performance can be easily tested without the impact of antennas.
Typically, as a verification process for the modification, we test RSRP responses from the different antenna branches to ensure that there is no gain in the balance between antenna branches and that everything works like expected. MIMO performance is checked by comparing tested throughput against the theoretical one. All this is done to ensure the high quality of our modifications.
As an example, we tested throughput performance rates of a 5G smartphone. The test was made in collaboration with Anritsu using their Radio communication Test Station MT8000A. We achieved throughput in the order 180 Mbit/s in SISO mode, 360Mbit/s in 2×2 MIMO mode and 720 Mbit/s when 4×4 MIMO was used.
Lastly, who needs RF Modification testing?
Mainly device manufacturers and operators. These companies can be for example companies making cellular testers or devices, infrastructure vendors and so on.
