Posti is at the biggest turning point in its 381 years of operation: Consumers’ needs have changed drastically through the rise of digitalization, huge reduction in paper mail, and heavy competition. On the other hand, the volume of shipped packages has been on the rise. This is due to the popularity of online shopping, which drives the need for Postal service to invest dozens of millions to build a consumer-friendly, country-wide automated package network.
The private sector has mainly been leading the goals of this project in close cooperation with research institute partners Centre of Wireless Communication in the University of Oulu and VTT. According to Jari Paasikivi, head of process technology at Posti: “The intention is to create heavily commercial solutions in the first quarter of the next year”.
Allied ICT Finland scouted for the best companies to participate in the project. Verkotan is happy to join Capricode, elfGroup, iProtoXi, Haltian, Juha Punta Oy, Kaltiot, Solmutech and Symbio as well as VTT & Oulu University in this project.
Verkotan, as a test service house for wireless products and systems, is also participating in a separate project with Posti. The project uses Haltian Thingsee IoT Gateway, read more about it here.
