Fatih Bayramoglu- Test system engineer at Verkotan

Fatih Bayramoglu has a Ph.D. in telecommunications engineering and his experience is mostly on the wireless transmission waveforms and the associated reception algorithms. Fatih has more than 15 years of working experience most of which have been in academia and some in industry. While he was working at the University of Oulu, he participated in the collaborative projects in which 5G was developed and standardized.

At Verkotan, not only do we use commercially available testing solutions but also, we develop testing and measurement solutions in-house. Fatih’s responsibilities include supporting this development effort by taking care of the signal processing related tasks. Now Fatih tells us how he feels about working at Verkotan.

What is the main problem within the industry and how do you respond to that in your everyday work?

5G introduces new technologies which bring new challenges along. I contribute to providing solutions for these new challenges. For instance, the active antenna technologies with beamforming comes with 5G. Legacy techniques to measure antenna pattern are not applicable for these new antennas which call for new solutions. At Verkotan, we develop and utilize these new solutions every day.

I also see that the main problem in the telecommunications industry is that “capacity crunch” is approaching fast. Once we hit a capacity crunch telecommunication rates will not increase anymore. In my opinion, the industry needs to innovate faster to delay hitting the capacity crunch as much as possible.

What are the values that drive you?

A famous piece of poem from Rumi can be roughly translated as “Either appear as you are or be as you look like.”. I try to follow this advice.

What are your impressions from working at Verkotan so far?

Verkotan is a relatively small company but the tasks it undertakes are quite challenging when compared to its size.

What is the most challenging aspect of your work?

The most challenging part of my work is the attention paid on the quality of our results. Quality in this type of a business means accuracy and repeatability. Even if a small measurement discrepancy is observed, we dig deep to find the root cause leading to it and never let it go. This attitude makes my job challenging and fun, but also it makes our results repeatable.

How did you find joining the team when you first started at the company?

I felt like everyone in the company was ready to welcome a newcomer to the team. I had had access to help whenever needed and everything went smoothly when I first started.

How is the working atmosphere?

There is a positive and friendly working atmosphere in the company even though we are going through challenging times due to Covid-19 outbreak.  I would like to thank all my colleagues and the management for contributing to such an atmosphere.

Are you satisfied with your current position? Do you feel the job is challenging enough for example in terms of knowledge and experience?

I have been working on problems which are somewhat different than the problems that I am accustomed to. This makes my tasks challenging. On the other hand, my experience still remains relevant in these problems so that I can enjoy some comfort while undertaking the challenge. Thus, overall, I find the job satisfying.

Would you tell us about your hobbies, what do you prefer doing on your free time?

As a hobby I collect electrical test and measurement equipment such signal generators and spectrum analysers. I have always enjoyed playing with these equipment. Obviously, I cannot afford the up-to-date test equipment like the ones at Verkotan. Nonetheless, I can say that my home-laboratory is pretty decent for a hobbyist.

Verkotan is always seeking enthusiastic specialists in the wireless industry to be part of our team. If you are interested in working here, send us an open application!
