Verkotan Partners with 5G-EMERGE to Transform Global Media Delivery

What is the 5G-EMERGE Initiative About?

Verkotan is proud to be part of the 5G-EMERGE European research initiative, which has entered Phase 2 of its mission to revolutionize global media delivery by integrating satellite, 5G, and terrestrial IP infrastructures. This groundbreaking project, co-funded by ESA ARTES and led by the EBU, has expanded its consortium from 21 to 34 companies. The Phase 2 agreement was signed on November 13, 2024, in Paris.

How Does 5G-EMERGE Improve Broadcasting?

5G-EMERGE combines satellite and terrestrial networks with 5G and smart edge delivery principles to create a resilient broadcasting system, improving service quality even in areas with limited connectivity. It also pioneers edge services for home, vehicle, and mobile applications, while exploring NR-NTN standards for direct satellite-to-mobile communication.

What’s the Focus in Phase 2?

In Phase 2, the focus shifts to refining core technologies for market readiness, addressing industry-specific needs like caching optimization, 5G orchestration, edge security, and advanced antenna solutions. Verkotan is excited to contribute its expertise to this diverse consortium of innovators in satellite and online delivery.
