New Harmonized Cybersecurity Standards Published

The European Commission has listed the EN 18031 standards in the Official Journal under the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) as of January 30, 2025. This is a major step in improving cybersecurity for radio equipment in the EU.

Manufacturers need to meet these new standards to stay compliant and keep selling in the EU by August 1, 2025.

Scope of EN 18031 Standards 📜
• EN 18031-1: Internet connected radio equipment
• EN 18031-2: Radio Equipment that processes personal data, traffic data or location data including toys and wearable devices
• EN 18031-3: Internet connected radio equipment that facilitates the transfer of money or virtual currencies

Important Dates 📅
• January 30, 2025: Standards listed in Official Journal of the European Union
• August 1, 2025: Compliance required

Restrictions to the Harmonized Standards 🚫
• EN 18031-1, EN 18031-2, EN 18031-3: Sections “rationale” and “guidance”
• EN 18031-1, EN 18031-2, EN 18031-3: Use of default passwords
• EN 18031-2: Parental or guardian access control
• EN 18031-3: Secure updates
