All WLAN Routers in terms of SAR are now defined as Base Stations
A harmonized standard for CE RED, EN 50385 “Product standard to demonstrate the compliance of base station equipment with radio frequency electromagnetic field exposure limits (110 MHz – 100GHz), when placed on the market”, defines WLAN access points now as base stations. The standard notes radio-relays, wireless local area network access points and base stations for cordless telephony are examples of base stations.
This means that compliance with human exposure requirements need to be shown now, even though a router would normally be used further than 20 cm away from the human body.
As per EN 50385, the evaluation of compliance shall be done in accordance with EN 62232. The alternative evaluation methods are:
1) SAR Measurements
2) Calculation of the Exposure
3) Field Strength Measurements
Verkotan provides the required evidence either by measuring the SAR value , calculating the RF exposure or by providing Electromagnetic Field Measurements.
Verkotan is always happy to provide more detailed information and make a proposal how we can verify the performance of your wireless device in the global environment.
